¡¡¡The Festivities arrive to Barcelona!!!
The next 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th September arrives in Barcelona, La Merce 2018, a weekend that floods the streets of Barcelona with culture and leisure.
The festivities are celebrated in honour of Merce (Mercedes) Patroness of the city of Barcelona (along with Sta. Eulalia, co-patron of the city). The Virgin in the thirteenth century appeared to King James I a September 24, and years later she saved the city from a locust plague in the seventeenth century.
Since then, the city began to celebrate the festivities in September, festivities that today are still celebrated.
Currently La Merce maintains its character of popular celebration thanks to the collaboration of the entire city and of Catalonia. Because, at the end of the day, this celebrations are a mix of popular culture of the whole nation.
