Spring in Barcelona. Four essential walks
In Hostalin we are happy because spring has arrived, that blood changes.
They are days when you want to go out on the street to enjoy something as simple, fantastic and cheap as it is to go for a walk. Is there anything better than feeling the May sun on your face while we walk aimlessly? Or sit and rest on a terrace of a café in the shade of the banana trees already full of leaves?
The truth is that it does not take much longer to be happy. Walking and enjoying a healthy buoying is enough. If we raise our heads, we will discover that geraniums have already blossomed on the balconies of the careful locals.
But if we want to take full advantage of the walks in spring, we can look at a few specific areas of Barcelona where nature looks its best.
In Hostalin we have our preferences and, as we love to share them, we reveal what they are. Here we propose four indispensable places of the city for a good spring walk.
1) Carretera de les aigües
Do you want to see Barcelona as a whole from a privileged place? Well, let’s start with a walk at the top, in one of the mountains that preside over Barcelona, Collserola. From there, we will have breathtaking panoramic views of the city, while being in the middle of nature.
We will take the Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat until the Peu stop of the Funicular to connect with the Funicular to the Carretera de les aigües stop. Leaving this station, we will find ourselves right in the middle of this road that has more than 10 kilometers of walk bordering the hull.
We will be able to walk both on one side and on the other. The two routes are fantastic. With very little unevenness and a considerable width, this path is ideal both for walking tours and for running or cycling routes.
2) Rosaleda del Parc Cervantes
Now, let’s go down a little. Near the metro stop of the L3 University Zone is the Parc Cervantes. It is a site that is not well known, but that is really worth it. And more in the spring.
Because if anything characterizes this season of the year is that it is a time of flowers. In this sense, the Parc Cervantes is a marvel. And look that “only” is specialized in a type of flower. Yes, a single type of flower … But what a flower! It is, neither more nor less, the most famous in Catalonia: the rose.
The Parc Cervantes rose garden contains some 10,000 roses of almost 2,000 species of roses from around the world. And eye to the fact: during the time of more flowering of these roses (between the months of May and July), they can get to present some 150,000 roses open!
3) Parc de la Ciutadella
If you stay in one of our options in the center of Barcelona and you are a bit lazy, no problem. The Parc de la Ciutadella is your green space.
Due to its location, it is the ideal place to look for a shade of one of its lime trees or one of its magnolias and sit down to rest. And when you have recovered, attentive to this advice we make from Hostalin: if you are lucky, behind the stairs of the Monumental Cascade you can find a jazz saxophonist who usually takes advantage of that corner to improvise a few pieces for the love of art.
This park, in addition to downtown, is the most important in Barcelona since the Universal Exhibition of 1888. It is built where there was the old military citadel that controlled the city in the mandate of Felipe V in the eighteenth century. The lands were recovered a century later to design a large green space essential in a Barcelona that was already overcrowded by industrial development.
And the proposal triumphed. Still today it is the quintessential park of many Barcelonians.
4) The beach
Very close to the Parc de la Ciutadella, we will find another ideal place for these days: the beach. Because … who said that the beaches are only for the summer? The real good season for the beach is spring.
Although Barcelona has almost five kilometers of beach, in summer it is difficult to find a space to put the towel. During these spring months, however, we can walk without stress. The sun will not burn us and, at the same time, from the end of May, getting into the water will not be crazy either.
Do not miss the experience of walking along the promenades that you will find from the seaside neighborhood of Barceloneta to the Forum Park, passing through the Olympic Village. Among other things because, if you are of life, you will find an impressive gastronomic and leisure offer.
A part of these four walks that we propose from Hostalin, surely you know or have discovered other wonderful places to enjoy in spring.
What is your spring place par excellence? Surely you can discover us some other paradise within the city!
